EMMA SAFETY FOOTWEAR: SUSTAINABILITY REPORT 2023

Safety first, with sustainability following closely in its footsteps!
In the world we live in today, we find ourselves facing a number of challenges in terms of social equality (and inequality) and our climate. That is the reason why we have specific objectives that form the basis of our work to improve our own impact. On the environment, on people and on our organisation. Each year, we publish a sustainability report that explains the progress we have made during that year. In that report, we have provided an overview based on three topics: business operations, environment and social responsibility.

A step towards a more sustainable future
We are endeavouring to reduce our impact on our climate, while increasing equality of opportunity. This means designing our safety footwear by focusing on the needs of people and of the environment.

Here is a selection of what we achieved in 2023:

  • During the design process, we consider what we can do to ensure that our products will last as long as possible and what sustainable materials would be most suitable to use:
    • We developed the CrossForce. Though the X-model contains more raw materials, it doesn't include any unnecessary materials.
    • We also developed The Mine, our must sustainable safety shoe yet. It contains more recycled and more sustainable materials, but a reduced quantity of new materials.
  • We do everything we can to keep our carbon impact and our waste streams as small as possible:
    • Six of our existing models are ‘Climate Neutral Group’ certified.
    • Via the Circular Footwear Alliance, we and our partners collected in 14,800 pairs of shoes. This mean that we were able to give the materials used a new life, once the shoes themselves could no longer be used.
  • We also paid attention to inclusiveness, the vitality of our workforce and to social responsibility within our supply chain:
    • 52% of our workforce was in some sort of supervised employment.
    • 50% of our management team are women.
    • We switched to the governance platform Worldfavor 2.0, on which we are asking all of our product-related suppliers to sign our Code of Conduct in 2024.
